“Behold, I standing at the door knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come into you and feast with you, and you will feast with me.” Revelation 3:20 TPT
Revival is a unique, distinctive, exceptional outpouring of God’s spirit. It is His manifested glory, revealing of greater revelation of Him and His ways. Where the intangible manifested glory becomes tangible and where absolutely anything is possible. True authentic revival is God breathed, not man manufactured. But it begins in the heart of man.
It’s one thing to desire and talk about revival, but it’s another to live it. We will never live in this place of revival by having more passion for the idea of revival than revival itself. There is a lifestyle within the churches that stemmed from so many, being more in love with the idea of Jesus than with Jesus Himself. This originates with the fact that there is no true, authentic relationship with Jesus that is taking place from those who claim to be Christians.
How did we get to this place? The Lord said it to me this way: “The reason why so many are in love with the idea of me rather than with me is due to the lack of fear they have for me. They have lost their sense of awe and wonder of my glory, for my presence, for simply of who I am. The respect and honor for me and my ways have been devalued by man in these days but this will be restored- for revival, a move of my spirit will not transpire and can not transpire without the reverence, the honor and the respect of me, the Lord, their God, being present.”
When talking about the fear of the Lord, we are not talking about being scared, afraid or terrified of God. Having a fear of the Lord is completely opposite. Being scared of God is similar to having something to hide, like Adam and Eve in the garden. Having a fear of the Lord is having a holy awe, reverence, respect and honor for God, His ways, His Word and His presence. Having a fear of the Lord is having a radical God-centeredness that shapes everything else in your life. It’s not building your life around things trying to fit God in. It’s knowing Him more intimately and drawing near to Him.
“DRAW NEAR TO ME AND I WILL DRAW NEAR TO YOU.” JAMES 4:8
Fear of the Lord is a complete surrender to God. Having a desire for His desires. Those who fear God obey Him intensely because they trust Him completely even when it doesn’t make sense. Even if and when it hurts or they don’t see the benefits of it. Just as in Genesis when Abraham was willing to sacrifice Issac.
“WHEN ALL HAS BEEN HEARD, THE END OF THE MATTER IS: FEAR GOD [WORSHIP HIM WITH AWE-FILLED REVERENCE, KNOWING THAT HE IS ALMIGHTY GOD] AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS, FOR THIS APPLIES TO EVERY PERSON.” ECCLESIASTES 12:13
The main ingredient to effectively love God is to walk with Him daily. Before revival ever starts and goes public we must be living and walking in reverence towards God. You are the wick for revival. Repentance is the passageway to revival. The Holy Spirit is the oxygen, hunger and desire are the spark and the fear of the Lord is the fuel of revival. These things make up the heartbeat of revival.
“WHAT HAS THE CHURCH GAINED IF IT IS POPULAR BUT THERE IS NO CONVICTION, NO REPENTANCE, NO POWER?” A.W. TOZER
The fear of the Lord leads to the conviction needed for revival. It is the beginning of repentance-clearing the way for revival. And the fear of the Lord unlocks the power of God for revival. Proverbs 14:2 tells us “he who walks in uprightness rears the Lord.” This culture and lifestyle of being in love with the idea of Jesus has produced a casual Christianity where there is no respect for the things of God.
“WHEN MEN NO LONGER FEAR GOD, THEY TRANSGRESS HIS LAWS WITHOUT HESITATION” A.W TOZER
Exodus 20:20 tells us “Where a fear of the Lord is present there is a disdain for sin.” Having a dislike for evil is not the fear of the Lord. Having a fear of the Lord is a determining factor on how you will combat sin in your life. On how you battle temptations and things of this world. Having a fear of the Lord is knowing God is full of grace and yet you relentlessly run from evil, leaving sin in your rear-view mirror. It’s standing firm in your convictions upon the Word of the Lord. The fear of God removes the fear of death-for He has given us life!
“THE LORD TAKES PLEASURE IN THOSE WHO FEAR HIM” PSALM 147:11
“THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM” PSALM 111:10
“THE FEAR OF THE LORD ADDS LENGTH (EXPANDS-PROLONGS) TO ONE’S LIFE” PSALM 10:27
We will never see revival without first having restoration take place-restoration of the fear of the Lord in the hearts of men and within the body of Christ. A fear of the Lord is the foundation for a house of revival.
