God is not calling you just to the mountain. Nor is He wanting us to remain at the foot of the mountain. He is giving us an invitation to ascent the mountain where His glory resides.
This is my concern, the unease in my heart: that people will become content to life without the fire, power, excitement, the supernatural element that makes them great. The Lord has spoken to me that many Christian leaders and believers have been in love with the idea of Jesus and not Jesus Himself. They are living a false narrative, not having a true authentic relationship with the savior, the great I Am. This is creating a lack of hunger, surrender and fire. Resulting in a powerless church and people. They have a lack of conviction and repentance of sins.
“WHAT HAS THE CHURCH GAINED IF IT IS POPULAR BUT THERE IS NO CONVICTION, NO REPENTANCE, NO POWER?” A.W. TOZAR
This is exactly what you get with an idea of Jesus, man-made images of Him- popular churches with no power.
Exodus 33:19, Moses said “Please, show me your glory.” This should be our cry! God’s glory is at the top of the mountain. For us to ascend to the mountain, to be in His presence, we must first recognize our NEED for His presence. The climb will not always be easy. The enemy will attack and dry to keep us from ascending. But we must persevere, it’s worth it. You have the opportunity to ascend the mountain, draw near to God. To be molded, shaped and refined by God.
Many believers choose to do what is more comfortable to them, to return to what is comfortable, at the base of the mountain. Why? Because God’s presence reveals what needs to be removed. It reveals the heart of man, bringing repentance and surrender. Many would rather hold on to the comforts of the flesh to fulfill fleshly desires rather than to fulfill the desires of the spirit. When you choose to descend from the mountain, the result is sin. You are returning to a place God has called you out of. This is trying to get God to fit into our narrative rather than live how God has called us. Are you in love with Jesus or the idea of Him? Are you trying to fit Him into your wants and desires rather than align yourself with His desires for you? We make excuses to justify this way of living like saying “Well God knows my heart.” Yes He does, even better than you do!
“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Luke 9:23
We must come to the mountain daily. Daily surrender, daily relationship with God. Let our desire, our determination to know God intimately. From a place of intimacy, we will not be able to shape Jesus into the image of our own desires. Let us be in love with Jesus, not the idea of Jesus.
